Artist Statement

My creative journey is deeply intertwined with the art of Flamenco. As an Asian artist, I've found Flamenco to be more than just music and dance—it's a transformative force that transcends cultural boundaries. Through works like "Pregón de Candied Haws por Flamenco," "Flamenco por Spring Festival Overture," and "Unnecessary Fish," I've ventured into video production, exploring Flamenco's profound significance in my life.

These two works, in particular, "Pregón de Candied Haws por Flamenco" and "Flamenco por Spring Festival Overture," are cross-cultural creations. They highlight the similarities between Flamenco and Chinese culture, bringing joy to the audience. In my works, I combine live music, visuals, singing, poetry, and dance to create a multi-dimensional experience.

Growing up, my cultural upbringing didn't always provide explicit guidance on emotional expression. Flamenco became a liberating avenue, teaching me to embrace vulnerability and find strength in adversity. Its emphasis on improvisation has fostered mindfulness and inner awareness, helping me let go of control and trust in the present moment.

Flamenco has been instrumental in my journey of self-discovery, allowing me to explore my cultural and personal identity. Looking ahead, I envision my artistic practice continuing to be a fusion of Flamenco's passionate expression and my unique cultural perspective, creating work that resonates with diverse audiences and inspires others to embrace their own creative paths.
